Assisted Embryo Hatching (AEH) may be helpful in cases where there may be an expected problem for the embryo to break out of its shell, the zona pellucida. This includes patients with failed cycles, abnormal hormone levels, suboptimal embryo quality or thickened zona pellucida (shell). A microneedle filled with a chemical is used to introduce a small opening in the zona pellucida. Introducing this opening can facilitate the embryo's release from the zona pellucida. This may result in increased implantation in the uterus.
